Every Leviathan in Subnautica 2: Full Roster
Every confirmed Leviathan-class creature in Subnautica 2 — Collector, Shiver, Great Jaw, Deepwing Brooder, World Tree and the leaked Elusive Leviathan.
Subnautica 2 has five confirmed Leviathan-class creatures in the live Early Access build, plus one leaked, datamined-only Leviathan that is not a normal encounter. That is six named entries total: Collector (aggressive, guards Karakorum Metal Farms), Shiver (aggressive, pack hunter in the Void), Great Jaw (aggressive, sessile ambush predator at Dolerite Spires), Deepwing Brooder (passive, migratory), World Tree (passive Titan-class, currently unreachable beyond the world border), and the Elusive Leviathan (leaked only, files/console/mods). This page rounds up all six with a routing guide so you know which one matters for the trip you’re actually planning.
How to use this list
Don’t just read every entry top to bottom — jump to the one that matches where you’re headed:
- Heading to Karakorum Metal Farms for Axum Bacterial Culture? Read the Collector Leviathan section below, then the full Collector Leviathan evasion guide — it covers the exact depth band that keeps both patrols from noticing you.
- Diving into the Void? Read the Shiver Leviathan section, then the Void biome guide before you go. It hunts in packs, and the Void sits beyond the current Early Access boundary, so treat it as end-of-build content, not an early detour.
- Scouting Dolerite Spires at the southwestern map edge? Read the Great Jaw section. It doesn’t chase, so your plan is about not triggering it in the first place, not outrunning it.
- Just want scan fauna, not a fight? The Deepwing Brooder is the one leviathan you can approach without a survival plan — it’s passive, though you’ll need mobility upgrades to keep up with it.
- Curious about the biggest thing in the game? That’s the World Tree, and the honest answer right now is that you can’t reach it yet — it sits beyond the Great Trench in Xanadu, outside the current world border.
- Found footage of a horned, dragon-like creature online? That’s the Elusive Leviathan, and it is not something you can meet in a normal playthrough — see the full breakdown before you go looking for it in-game.

| World Tree | Confirmed | Passive (Titan-class) | Xanadu, beyond the Great Trench — unreachable in current EA | Among the largest organisms in the setting |

Collector Leviathan
A multi-tentacled cephalopod predator that broadcasts sonar and patrols the approach to Karakorum Metal Farms, the water above Root Canyon, and Sparse Plains — two separate Collector Leviathans work the Root Canyon approach alone. It’s the gatekeeper for Axum Bacterial Culture, which every Metal Farm needs. Full evasion routing is in the dedicated Collector Leviathan guide.
Shiver Leviathan
Hunts in packs called a “shiver,” with a striking size difference between the 84 m females and 39 m males. It inhabits the Void, which sits beyond the current Early Access world boundary — so for most players today, this is a creature you’ll read about before you meet it.
Great Jaw
A sessile ambush predator — it doesn’t swim after you, it waits. Think of it as functioning like a giant venus flytrap: it traps and neurotoxin-kills whatever gets close. Reported around the Dolerite Spires at the map’s southwestern edge. Since it can’t chase, survival here is entirely about not triggering it.
Deepwing Brooder
The one leviathan on this list that isn’t a threat. It’s passive, migratory, and travels in groups of three around the map perimeter. Its 15–28 m body and 21–33 m wingspan make it easy to spot, but it moves fast enough that you’ll want mobility upgrades if you actually want to scan it up close.
World Tree
A passive, sessile Titan-class organism and one of the largest living things in the setting. It sits in Xanadu, past the Great Trench — beyond the current world border, meaning it is not reachable in the live Early Access build as of this writing, no matter how far you push your Depth Module.
Elusive Leviathan
Credibility here is leaked/datamined only. It’s an unfinished asset with a dragon-like body and horns, and its defining behavior is fleeing when approached while trailing a damaging ooze. The only way to encounter it currently is through developer console access or mods — it is not a spawn you’ll find in normal play. Read the full Elusive Leviathan breakdown for what’s actually known versus speculated.
FAQ
How many leviathans are in Subnautica 2? Five confirmed and live in Early Access — Collector, Shiver, Great Jaw, Deepwing Brooder, and World Tree — plus one leaked, datamined-only entry, the Elusive Leviathan, that isn’t a normal encounter. Six named leviathans total as of this writing.
Which leviathan is most dangerous? For players actually diving the current map, the Collector Leviathan is the one you’ll deal with most, since it guards the route to Karakorum Metal Farms. The Great Jaw is arguably scarier on paper — it’s an ambush predator with a neurotoxin kill — but it can’t chase you, so awareness beats it easily. The Shiver hunts in packs and is likely the most dangerous once the Void becomes reachable, but that’s currently beyond the Early Access boundary.
Is the Elusive Leviathan real? The model, audio, and behavior are real and sitting in the game’s files — but it is not a creature you can encounter through normal play. It’s only reachable via developer console or community mod tools, which puts it firmly in leaked/unfinished territory rather than a confirmed live encounter.
Will more leviathans be added? Almost certainly, given Subnautica 2 is still in Early Access with a multi-year content roadmap. Track additions on our roadmap tracker and patch notes tracker — this list will be updated as new leviathans are confirmed or as locked ones like the World Tree become reachable.
