May 24 update
Hotfix and feedback are now the key Early Access watch items
Unknown Worlds published the first Early Access roadmap on May 15, Hotfix 1 on May 19, a community feedback letter on May 20 and Hotfix 2 on May 22. EA 1.1 still focuses on quality of life and EA 1.2 still focuses on co-op, but the newest official watch items are early Silver/Troilite availability, Tadpole creature pressure, creature balance, mitigation tools and Terms / analytics clarity.
The practical buying advice is simple: play now if you want co-op exploration and launch-week discovery; wait if your priority is a complete story, expanded map and more settled creature balance.
Treat current saves as active-development saves. Back them up before major updates and avoid assuming every base location or route note will remain unchanged throughout Early Access.

Launch Checklist
First-session checklist
- 1. Update before playing — install any day-one client updates or hotfixes before judging performance or multiplayer stability.
- 2. Update your GPU driver — Subnautica 2's UE5 visuals reward a fresh Nvidia or AMD driver release.
- 3. Free up storage — keep extra room for Early Access hotfixes and shader compilation. Confirm the final install size in your storefront.
- 4. Set up your co-op group — sort out who hosts and how you join before the first deep route. See the multiplayer guide.
- 5. Claim launch rewards — the Reaper Leviathan Statue blueprint is now granted to every player at launch, and the May 9 Seamoth Statue Twitch Drop can be redeemed in-game after account linking.
- 6. Read the first 24 hours guide — so you do not waste your peak-energy first session figuring out what to craft.
