Subnautica 2 Void Biome: What Lives There and Where It Ends
The Void is Subnautica 2's deepest, most dangerous zone: depth range, the Shiver Leviathan, and where the current Early Access world border sits.
The Void is not a biome in the same sense as the Shallows or Root Canyon. It runs from 0 all the way down to 3,100 metres — far past anywhere the game expects you to build, farm, or even survive comfortably. There is no confirmed resource table for it, only one confirmed resident leviathan, and it currently marks the edge of Subnautica 2’s Early Access world. Think of it less as a place to farm and more as the boundary you eventually run into.
What makes the Void different
Every other biome documented on this site has a defined depth band, a resource table, and a known set of fauna. The Void has almost none of that structure:
- No confirmed resource table. Unlike the Shallows or Root Canyon, there is nothing here documented as farmable in the current build.
- A single confirmed leviathan. The Shiver Leviathan is the only creature confirmed to inhabit the Void — an aggressive hunter that moves in packs called a “shiver.” Females measure roughly 84 metres, males around 39 metres. That fact is solid even though the rest of this page, covering Xanadu and what’s still locked, stays in predicted territory.
- It is the current world edge. Push far enough into the Void and you reach the limit of what Early Access actually renders and simulates — not a wall, but the practical end of the playable frontier.
Because of that, this page is a briefing on what to expect rather than a farming guide. If you are looking for a biome to gather resources in, the Root Canyon guide or the resource database are better starting points.
What to expect if you go
- Prepare like you are going somewhere with no support, because you are. There is no known base of resources waiting for you, so bring supplies for the trip itself rather than expecting to restock along the way.
- Do not expect loot. The absence of a documented resource table is not an oversight on this site’s part — it reflects the current state of the biome itself. Treat any trip here as exploration, not farming.
- Watch for the Shiver. The Shiver Leviathan hunts in packs, and at up to 84 metres in length it is one of the largest confirmed threats in the game. Give any sighting a wide berth rather than trying to outlast or outmaneuver a pack.
- Recognize the world boundary when you hit it. If your descent or your outward swim stops producing new terrain and encounters, you have reached the edge of what Early Access currently simulates. That is expected, not a bug.
- Cross-reference before you commit. Check the interactive map and creature database for anything newly documented, since this is the part of the map most likely to change with future updates.
Beyond the Void: Xanadu (not yet reachable)
Not yet reachable. Everything in this section describes territory beyond the current Early Access world border. Treat it as background, not as something you can plan a trip to today.
Community datamines reference territory beyond the Void called Xanadu, home to the World Tree — a passive, sessile Titan-class organism said to be among the largest living things in the game’s setting — and a landmark referred to as the Alien Crypt. None of this is reachable in the live mid-July 2026 build. It sits past the current world border that the Void itself marks the edge of.
Unknown Worlds’ own roadmap says a future update, undated beyond “later in the year,” will add a new region along with new creatures and resources. That is presumably the update that eventually opens Xanadu, but there is no confirmed date, and nothing here should be read as a promise of when. Track confirmed changes on the roadmap and patch notes rather than treating datamined content as current.
The Void vs. Root Canyon
Root Canyon is the deepest biome you can actually work in today; the Void is what lies past it. The Root Canyon biome guide covers a resource-gated but farmable zone with two Collector Leviathans and a known depth band. The Void has none of that structure.
| Root Canyon | The Void | |
|---|---|---|
| Depth | 364-750 m | 0-3,100 m |
| Resource table | Confirmed (Celestine, Atacamite, Silver, Gold, Sulfur, and more) | None confirmed |
| Confirmed threat | Two Collector Leviathans | Shiver Leviathan (pack hunter) |
| Purpose | Rare-metal farming, access to Metal Farms | Exploration, world-edge marker |
| Gear gate | Depth Module | No defined safe depth — open abyss |
That contrast is the whole story: Root Canyon is an endgame farming destination, and the Void is the frontier past it. If you have not made the trip through Root Canyon yet, that is the more useful stop first — the Shallows guide covers the other end of that same progression, from starting biome through gear-gated depth to the world edge.
FAQ
Can I reach the World Tree yet? No. The World Tree and the wider Xanadu region sit beyond the current Early Access world border as of mid-July 2026. They are referenced in community datamines but are not reachable in the live build.
What lives in the Void? The only officially confirmed resident is the Shiver Leviathan, an aggressive pack hunter that can reach roughly 84 metres in length for females and around 39 metres for males.
Is there loot in the Void? There is no confirmed resource table for the Void in the current build. Treat any trip there as exploration rather than a farming run.
When will Xanadu open? There is no confirmed date. Unknown Worlds’ roadmap mentions a future update, undated beyond “later in the year,” that will add a new region, creatures, and resources — check the roadmap for the latest confirmed status rather than relying on datamined guesses.
